Three Tips for Top 1% on LinkedIn

How did I achieve the top 1% most viewed profiles on @LinkedIn for 2012? My passion for accomplishment lead me to focus on three main points of attraction:

  • Profile Photo I attribute my success primarily to, believe it or not, my photo.  I made the conscious choice to have a photo taken by a professional. I didn’t just pose for a traditional profile picture or worse yet go for something ad hoc that was too small, too dark, or unrecognizable as myself. My profile photo on LinkedIn is the result of an entire day of taking pictures in many different locations, in many different situations, from the perspective of the alchemy of dance. 
  • Participation The second most significant reason for my LinkedIn views of course is consistency, meaningful participation in all aspects of the LinkedIn community on a regular basis. I post discussions, I participate in discussions both in my own groups, Busy Woman Entrepreneurs and SportsVisionVideo, but also in as many other groups as possible within the LinkedIn platform. Even it’s just one little thing, I try to do something every day. I post updates, I ask and answer help questions.
  • Controversy Speaking the truth can be risky. When I made the decision to join LinkedIn I also made the decision to take that risk. I soon learned the high road isn’t the easy road, and you have to be prepared for backlash from those hiding behind a cloak of truth. However staying polite and professional has paid off and proved to be worth the obstacles and opposition. I’ve never been afraid to try new and different things, even if it’s cost me, even if I made mistakes. Mistakes often present new opportunities to do what you have to do to take responsibility for yourself, for business without compromising our innate principles as human beings.

Honestly, in retrospect I don’t think I would have had the guts if it wasn’t for a foolproof way to awaken will to do everyday, however pHx is not now available to the public, contact me for more information.

Why wrinkle proof your exercise workout? While health isn’t just about beauty, natural beauty is a marker for health fitness that protects us physically, emotionally, and mentally. You know how areas around the mouth and nose go white when blood drains from the face under stress? Ultimately it’s the result of adrenaline pumped into the blood stream by the adrenal medulla and sympathetic nervous system; this happens anytime we’re awake and engaged in daily activity, even when walking or just thinking. This is the hormone that shuts down circulation in most of the body (including around the mouth during exercise even when the rest of the face is hot and sweaty) so the muscles can take flight or fight if necessary.

The cerebral circulation is protected from hormone, body pH, and other steady state disruptions by a blood brain barrier with one exception: the pineal gland. This little structure within the midbrain is responsible for monitoring what’s going on in the body and communicating with the brain (hence evolution didn’t put a barrier between the pineal gland and the rest of the body). The pineal gland plays such a key role in mind body awareness and integration, and is of such importance to both brain and body, it has a circulation second only to the kidneys.

Whenever blood vessels constrict in deep organs and skin innervated by the sympathetic nerves like around the mouth (as they usually do during exercise) it’s a sure sign the pineal gland has shut down as well. As blood volume shifts from the organs and skin to the large long working muscles, body pH drops and blood and cellular fluid become acidic. This in turn affects our mood (once the endorphins have worn off), speed of cellular renewal, and our ability to continue to master our environment as we age. [ pHx ] Why the Unusual Focus? Part II

Three things need to happen to accelerate the normalization of body pH to steady state levels whenever blood and cellular fluid becomes acidic under stress which splits mind and body. The warm-up cool down criteria required to achieve a pH fit with any program of physical exercise include:

pH Fit #1 
Design of the breathing pattern needs to fit the oxygen needs of each movement with such precision that the usual quickening and heaviness of breath during exercise is never observed under any circumstance of speed, intensity or duration.

pH Fit #2
Circulation of blood and lymph which usually gets shut down in the deep organs during exercise as fluid volume shifts to the large long working muscles, needs to be addressed in order to distribute oxygen and electrolytes more equitably between all tissues of the body.

pH Fit #3
To prevent the competition for oxygen between tissues during exercise when the same V02max isn’t (and it usually isn’t) achieved in the small muscles of the wrists and ankles as in the large muscles, it’s necessary to oxygenate the anatomical cavities in order of greatest blood volume and work the muscles in corresponding sequence.

[ Busy Women ] Entrepreneurs: Circulation Crucial to Weight Loss

It’s also crucial for heart attack prevention, positive mood, mental acuity and anti-aging rejuvenation.

When I say circulation is the keystone to health, I’m not talking about the large long muscles that hog most (up to 90%) of the blood in the body during exercise.

That’s fine for building muscle but not for re-building all the other parts of the body. And it’s certainly not the most efficient way to burn fat contrary to popular belief.

Here’s why:

  • Oxygen is the fuel that burns the calories. In order to speed up metabolism, the body requires oxygen. Since total body mass is much greater than muscle mass, the more oxygen you can circulate to more cells the more fat you can burn.
  • Electrolytes are the spark plug that ignites the oxygen. For efficient metabolism the body requires a specific ratio of ionic particles. Otherwise electrical activity is dampened as acidified pH of blood and cellular fluid disrupts electrolyte balance.
  • Hormones and neural networks are the engine that drives the entire process. In order to steer the body in the direction of health the neuro-endocrine system has to be stimulated in a new way that opens up rather than shuts down circulation in the deep organs.

Here’s how:

  • Oxygen delivery depends on control of dilation and constriction. Since the circulatory system is a closed circuit, to get equal amounts of oxygen to every cell it’s necessary to control blood vessel diameter. Usually the default during exercise is dilation in muscle tissue and general constriction in the rest of the body. This is automatic unless you take over the controls with movement-specific design that follows precise natural laws.
  • Electrolyte balance depends on control of temperature and ventilation. As blood vessels shut down with rising temperatures and breathing gets heavier, it’s a signal that steady state body pH has been disrupted and metabolic electricity dampened. To put yourself at the helm of compensatory mechanisms, breathing-specific design must fit the needs of each exercise so precisely there’s no discernible hyperventilation or hypoventilation at any speed, intensity or duration EVER.
  • Hormone and neural triggers depend on control of deep body stimulation. Release of cortisol into the blood stream needs to be mitigated during exercise, otherwise inflammation accelerates pre-mature aging and slows weight loss ». Sequence-specific exercise design is required to balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems and trigger the release of all hormones (including HGH and leptin) in the proportions that open up circulation in both deep and superficial tissues.

Here’s what and when:

  • Martial arts is perhaps best known for it’s ability to generate ionic energy in the body. There’s a traditional saying that “circulation goes where chi flows”. Qigong, Tai chi and the soft martial arts are conducive to raising metabolic rate without promoting overheating and hyperventilation, however it takes great patience to develop enough skill to balance all the neural and endocrine factors. Therefore this modality is more appropriate for life long learning.
  • Yoga and Pilates are famous for aligning and stimulating the spinal segments by working the core muscles. Movement of the vertebrae stimulates neural plexus and subsequently the corresponding endocrine plexus and hormones, however here again it takes many hours of practice to perfect and accomplish these goals. Therefore yoga and Pilates are appropriate for classes taken two or three times a week with a master teacher of the modality.
